It was a privilege for Brock K. Bakewell, MD, of Eye Associates of Tucson, to partner with Operation Sight, a philanthropic initiative of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, to provide much-needed cataract surgery for two uninsured Pima County residents.
In June 2026, Susan Pietrangelo and her husband, John, each underwent bilateral cataract surgery performed by Dr. Bakewell. Their significantly reduced vision was restored to 20/20 following surgery, helping them regain their independence and quality of life.
The surgeries were made possible through the generous support of Eye Associates of Tucson, Wyatt Surgery Center, and Guide Anesthesia, which donated all surgical expenses. Johnson & Johnson also generously provided the intraocular lenses.
5-Star Rating in Our Book
“Susan and I want to send to you and your whole staff a very special thank you for all that you have done to help us through our journey of the daily nightmare of losing our ability to see clearly and function safely. Because of your skill and the support of all your lovely staff, we are on the mend and have almost instantly emerged from a dimly-lit tunnel… into the light! My wife says, ‘I have my life back!’ You must have heard this many times throughout your years of service to your grateful clients. We feel that you have delivered a miracle of sorts, and mere words are not adequate to express our appreciation. There is no doubt that without the assistance of the many hearts and hands that contributed to our healing, we would have been in dire straits. We are truly blessed to have had you and yours in our corner… just when we needed it the most! We pray that your kindness and caring demeanor in helping us and the many others that you serve will be returned to you a thousand fold!”
– John Pietrangelo
Susan and John are incredibly grateful to everyone involved in restoring their vision. We are proud to recognize the entire team for their generosity and commitment to giving back to the community.
